To the Beat: Percussion Prodigy Li Biao at NCPA
Release time:2013-07-18Views:
If it’s true that men can only concentrate on one thing at a time, then Li Biao is the exception. He plays a variety of different percussion instruments from around the world and, at times, he plays several of them simultaneously.
Li was a child prodigy who began his music studies at the age of 5 and represented China internationally as a soloist from the age of 7. His specific style of playing inspired different composers to write pieces designed specifically for his performances. Li Biao and his percussion group also performed at the closing ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
For the opening concert of the NCPA International Percussion Festival, Li Biao will be accompanied by the Saxon Wind Philharmonic. This is the only professional orchestra consisting exclusively of wind players, conducted by the internationally renowned Thomas Clamor. Clamor himself was the youngest musician to join the Berlin Philharmonic when he first started with them in the early 1980s.
