Chinese percussionist Li Biao will present a concert with strong visual and acoustic impacts with his group Oct. 9 at Shenzhen Poly Theater.
Founded in 2005 with an international roster, the members of the Li Biao Percussion Group are all classically trained musicians and specialists in various areas of folk music.
The ensemble has performed at many famous arts festivals and musical events around the globe. Audiences are often amazed by the roughly 200 instruments the members might play during a concert.
Born in Nanjing, Li began his musical studies at 5 years old. In 1982, he entered the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing to study percussion. In 1988, he was selected to study in Moscow at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory and later graduated with a master’s degree. Li continued his education at the Munich Conservatory of Music in Germany and graduated with a master diploma.
Li has given countless solo recitals at various music festivals and cooperated with renowned orchestras and chamber ensembles around the world. He has performed in more than 70 countries. In 2003, Li was invited to teach at China Central Conservatory of Music. In 2006, he became professor of the Hanns Eisler College or Academy of Music in Berlin, one of the most prestigious music institutes in the world.
