NCPA International Percussion Festival 2014 had a splendid opening concert on September 30th, presented by the Festival's Director Li Biao and the artists of the China NCPA Orchestra. The internationally renowned percussionist led the Orchestra in three hefty percussive works and offered an exciting night for a packed house of more than one thousand people.

The concert opened with Li Biao's arrangement of Bach's Harpsichord Concerto No. 7 in G minor, which marked the world premiere of it. Then the concert kept on spoiling the audience with a rare performance of Bartok's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, which is recognized as a difficult work extensively studied by the academic circles. In the second half, the concert was concluded by Shchedrin's Carmen SuiteCarmen's hooky melodies have been widely adapted but the percussive one is rarely heard.

The Festival was closed on October 5th, and the four concerts presented by virtuosic percussionists exhibited the diverse charm of the percussive music.
